Friday Five #4: 1st April 2016

I'm so glad I've had such a successful week of blogging and I really hope you've enjoyed me posting every day at 9am on the dot. Lol jk April Fools guys and gals, it seems like I'm destined to only post once a week for the rest of my life. However, in all fairness, I'm really hoping this will change because as of yesterday I'm Uni free, Hallelujah thank you Jesus. Although I've still got bits and bobs of work to do and a hella scary exam at the end of April, I've got no more classes which means no more 6:30am alarms and no more £120 monthly train ticket (I can hear my bank account singing with joy). I'm so excited to be able to get up at a time that's not still practically in the middle of the night and actually have time to see my friends, watch TV and eat something for lunch that isn't a Mars bar. Plus, I'm looking forward to being able to sit down with my laptop and put much more time and effort in to this little blog which I've been reluctantly neglecting. I've not posted a Friday Five in a few weeks but I've had such a good week and thought there was no better way to say goodbye to March and hello to APRIL (umm how is it legit nearly time to put the Christmas tree up again?! Sloooow down 2016 you speedy lil thing).

1. NIP & FAB GLYCOLIC FIX DAILY CLEANSING PADS:

Recently, I've honestly been so good with money and have been a little bit obsessive about adding to my savings account as much as I can. However, I, Emma Egan, am a recovering spendaholic and this week I may or may not have had the worst relapse in history. Do you know that way where you just quickly pop in to Boots to pick up one thing but as you walk through the aisles lots of other little things take your fancy so you just collect them as you go? That happened to the absolute extreme and all of a sudden I was in the queue with a basket full of things that I don't really need but want oh so much, so yes, cashier lady take my money before I realise what I'm doing. Umm oh well at least your gal got about 384753 Boots advantage cards points, I swear I will actually be able to buy the whole of the Soap and Glory counter with that card soon.  ANYWAY, one of my favourite things that I picked up during my Boots splurge was these Nip & Fab cleansing pads. I've been spying them a lot in Boots recently but after reading a lot of good reviews I decided to pick a tub up for myself. The pads are little exfoliating pads soaked in gylcolic acid to resurface your skin, hyaluronic acid to moisturise and blue daisy to soothe. I was slightly scared to use these at first because, you know, I've always been of the belief that acid and skin aren't the safest combination plus when I unscrewed the lid I felt like I was back in the Chemistry labs at school because my oh my they smell strong. However, I've been so pleasantly surprised and I am seriously hooked. I did have a bit of a break out after the first use but I think that was just the dirt and oils coming to the surface. However, since then my skin has been absolutely glowing and feeling so soft and silky smooth, so these are definitely a welcomed addition to my skin care routine.

2. SOAP & GLORY SEXY MOTHER PUCKER MATTE LIP:

I swear this Friday Five isn't going to turn in to a Boots Haul post but I've just got to show you one last thing, promise. If you read my Valentine's Day make up post then you'll know that I was seriously crushing on the Soap & Glory Gloss Sticks. However, no matter how hard I try to steer away from it, I'll always be a matte gal and these cute little matte equivalents have got me in a bit of a tizzy. They apply so nice and smoothly and the colour is so striking and pigmented. Although the colour is really matte, they're not drying at all but I think this does effect how long they last because I find myself needing to reapply a couple of times throughout the day. However, I think I'm maybe just used to matte Mac lipsticks where you literally have to peel the skin off your lips if you want that stuff to come off. In all fairness, for only £3.50, these are unbelievably good. I picked one up in the colour 'Choccoberry' which is the nicest pink with brown undertones. I may or may not have the shade 'Berry Much' in my online Boots basket right now waiting for a heavenly sign that I should press confirm and put in my card number...still waiting.

3. FIVE GUYS:

This week, a date with my bestie Hannah was long overdue so we decided to drive the 35 minutes to Five Guys, which is definitely up there with my fave places to induce a food coma. For those who haven't been before, it's a burger place with a kind of retro diner feel where you start with a standard burger and choose from a big list of toppings. This is especially good for me since I can be so picky with my burgers and always have to provide the waiter with a big list of things I want them to take out. I got a bacon cheese burger with lettuce and green peppers and it was literally to die for. I also seriously have no idea what they do to their chips to make them taste that good. Can you pass the recipe on to my Mum please and thanks? We ate so much that we couldn't move afterwards so mission accomplished really.

4. HOMESENSE SPLURGE:

Although I would drive a whole 35 minutes just to get a Five Guys and go home, there was actually an ulterior motive for Hannah and I to make the trip. This is because only a minute away from Five Guys is the only HomeSense in Scotland (umm bit rude, build more please). HomeSense is basically the TK Maxx of home ware, meaning you never know what exciting things you're going to find and everything is super cheap which makes you want to fill your trolly with a million things you don't need because omg the RRP was £30 and it's only £4 here, lets get 6. And that's exactly what we did. We spent over an hour and a half searching down every aisle with our little trolly in tow screaming with delight when we found something cute that we had to have. Before I knew it, I was in the queue with a weekly planner, 2 notebooks, a set of the cutest marble print post-its and a decorative shell (don't ask, girl gotta keep an eye out for blog photo props). I am absolutely obsessed with everything I got, especially the 'brilliant ideas' notebook which I'm hoping to turn in to some form of Bullet Journal so I'll hopefully write a post about how I'm getting on with that in the not-so-distant future.

5. RIVER ISLAND KHAKI CULOTTE JUMPSUIT:

I am so happy that culottes are coming back in because I remember that the sassy little pair I had in Primary School were sooo comfy and airy and I need that freedom back in my life this Spring. Although I'm planning on getting just a normal pair of culottes at some point when my bank account has recovered from recent weeks, I simply couldn't walk away from this khaki coloured culotte jumpsuit I saw in River Island. It's a super nice relaxed slouchy fit with pleated material, a scoop neck and little spaghetti straps that cross at the back and I think it looks like it was worth way more than just £35. I wore it last weekend with black heels and a chunky gold necklace which made me feel slightly like a Grecian goddess which I was so ok with tbh.

I had a really good week this week despite some end of semester stress and I found it so hard to narrow down the best bits and things I've been loving to just five. I can't even begin to explain how glad I am to have a lot more time on my hands now that Uni's finished and I promise you'll be seeing a lot more from me now that everything has calmed down (you can make up your own mind as to whether that's good or bad). Ps I'd just like to give a little shoutout to Lindt chocolate, especially those golden bunnies, because they've dramatically improved my week by a good 300%.

What have been your best bits of the week? What are you looking forward to now Spring is finally here? Thanks for reading!
