Embracing a New Routine

I've finally crawled my way over the finish line of second year of Uni, and despite being slightly traumatised and metaphorically gasping for breath (and sleep), I've got my life back. This year at Uni has been interesting, to say the least, and although I've had some great times with amazing people, there have been parts of it that have been bloomin hard. No one really prepares you for how much Uni takes over your life, especially if you're a qualified full-time worrier like me, and I'm looking forward to breaking up with the clingy library and dreaming about something other than assignments. Plus, not having to wake up while the moon is still in the sky and being able to turn off that dreaded 6:30 alarm is the definition of bliss, bye boo see you never.

However, having a four month Summer in front of you with pretty much next to no responsibilities and obligations is kind of daunting. It's almost as though I've been a student for so long that I've forgotten how to be anything else. I am going to be increasing my hours at work and I'm so excited for all the extra dollar but despite that, I'm still going to have so much of the one thing I never have enough of: time.

Although having all of this time to do whatever I want is great, I can't help but feel a slight pressure to spend it wisely before all of a sudden it's all gone and I'm back standing at a train station platform in the rain at 8 in the morning wondering where the heck July went and reminiscing about bubblegum ice cream and temperatures of 13°c. By 'wisely' I don't necessarily mean researching cures for degenerative diseases in a make-shift lab in my bedroom (although that would be pretty cool) or even having novel-worthy adventures every day of life. I just want to use the time, which is so rare and precious, to try something new or do the things I really want to but can never fit in. And yes, that includes watching Teen Mom re-runs because I just need to see Catelynn and Tyler's wedding one more time, I promise.

So all going to plan, this Summer is going to be full of sunny road trips for ice cream and picnics with friends (umm just going to pretend that it's not snowing as I'm writing this, three days before May lol Scotland you joker). I'm going to use the time I have to really start looking after myself and my body properly which means more smoothies for breakfast and mid morning swims and does NOT mean getting out of bed at 12pm (note to self). I'm going to make a list of all of the books I want to read but just haven't got round to and curl up on an armchair all afternoon and work my way through them. I'm going to attempt to bake new things and potentially poison the people I love in the process. I'll set aside whole days to watch really long movies I love but don't usually have time for like Gone with the Wind and Fiddler on the Roof and force Blair to watch them too, soz. And of course I'm going to devote a lot more time to this little blog, which is possibly the thing I'm most looking forward too, so you'll definitely be hearing a lot more from me (sorry in advance).

I can't bloomin wait. The combination of the anticipation of the Summer to come and the massive coffee I had earlier to force my brain and fingers to work together to produce some coherent sentences is making shake slightly like an excited chihuahua who pukes when everything just gets a bit much. I'm so excited to have time to spend with the people I love and doing the things I enjoy. Good luck to everyone with exams still to do, not long to go until you experience the same feelings of freedom, you can do it!! I hope your Summer is full of all of the things that you love. What are you looking forward to having time for? Thanks for reading!

  1. I remember being at Uni and never knowing what to do with my summers! None of my uni friends lived remotely near my hometown, so I often ended up spending the summers by myself!

  3. This post truly made me smile. All those things you are looking forward to, I am too (bubblegum ice cream, hell yes!) I know what Uni can be like, it's all consuming. Take some time out for yourself everyday if you can (usually I would before bed with a good book and a cup of chamomile tea). X
