10 Things We All Relate to When We're Ill With the Cold

It's that time of year again when literally every single person is ill and a single sneeze can make you turn on your best friend because omg get away from me you infected freak, like seriously cover your mouth. Yes, influenza and the dreaded common cold are sweeping the nation, infecting everyone in their path, and there's pretty much nothing worse. So here's a list of things you'll relate to if your immune system has taken a hit recently.

1. Blowing your nose in public is seen as a first degree felony. There's nothing worse than someone staring you out as you try to empty the contents of your nose as elegantly as humanly possible. Do I use the tissue to do a subtle wipe or do I go for it and get it all out whilst running the risk of sounding like I belong in a zoo? Yes, I judge other people for doing it but when I'm sick it's a totally different story.

2. Vapour rub is your best friend, so rub it everywhere and enjoy being able to breathe for the next five minutes (because that's as much relief as you're going to get).

3. You spend the whole day thinking your cough is finally getting better until you lie down to go to sleep and guess who's back to make sure you don't sleep a wink. No amount of water or cough sweets are going to save you now so just accept the fact that you're going to keep everyone awake all night, soz.

4. No matter how much you moisturise or how soft your tissues are there's no escaping the crusty, flaky bits of skin around your nose that are now going to become a permanent feature of your face for the next two months.

 5. You literally do not have the energy to deal with anyone so you lock yourself in a dark room in the hope that no one will dare to bother you. Don't even knock unless you come bearing ice cream or a cure.

6. All of sudden, soup starts to consume your every thought and you can't imagine wanting to eat anything else ever again. I don't care what kind, I just want soup.

7. You come out of the shower feeling like you've just completed a triathlon because it's way too much effort to hold your hands above your head to wash your hair at the best of times, let alone when you're ill. Don't expect me to put myself through that torture again in a hurry.

8. You've forgotten what's it like to be able to hear and have pretty much accepted the fact that your ears will never pop again and you'll be partially deaf for life.

9. At first, having a few days off to lie on the couch and watch daytime TV sounds quite appealing but after day three of the Jeremy Kyle Show, Homes Under the Hammer and Dickinson's Real Deal you can't wait to get better and get back to normal life again.

10. You promise yourself that when you're better you'll never take not being ill for granted again.

Hope you're all surviving the epidemic out there. What are the worst things about being ill for you? Thanks for reading!

  4. Haha I love it! I'm suffering from a blooming cold at the moment and the worse is when I want to cough. I can already feel all eyes on me. So I try to hold it in but it backfires and I become a coughing spluttering mess! The worse!x
