A Loving Look Back at 2015

Well hello 2016, we meet at last. I hope you all had a fab New Year whatever you were doing and brought in the bells with full tummies and surrounded by your fave people. Blair and I took a trip to London for a few days and had such a great time spending New Year there. I had planned on writing this post, and summing up my year, last week before we went but, as per, disorganised me left packing, writing and general errands until the last minute so ran out of time. However, I think it's nice for my first post of the year to be one in which I look back at the past year to make way for the next one.

Overall, 2015 was a great year for me and, I know everyone keeps saying this, but it really did fly in. The start of the year saw me starting my second semester of first year at Uni, and looking back it seems so long ago now that third year feels on the horizon. A few months later, my dad had a special birthday (I won't disclose how old he turned) and the family celebrated with a trip to London.

The first half of the year was pretty uneventful until I crawled over the finish line and completed my first year at Uni in May, it was the greatest feeling. In June, I turned 19 and started to feel super old knowing that I was into my last year of being a teenager. July saw Blair and I going on our first abroad holiday alone without our parents and it felt like one of life's milestones. Suddenly, all the responsibility fell to us but thankfully we were the fab, organised team I knew we would be and Barcelona 2015 was definitely one of the year's (and my life's) highlights. On our return, the Barcelona Video was born and became famous among our families! The following month, during my first experience of the amazingly long Uni Summer holidays, I went on a trip with my family travelling round America. We visited Chicago, Memphis and New Orleans and then finished with a cruise of the Caribbean. It was another unbelievable experience and I loved getting to see so many different places in such a condensed space of time.

A few weeks before my trip to America, I made the decision which definitely shaped my year the most. I took the first steps towards starting this little blog and 5 months later I know it's one of the best decisions I could have ever made. I can't imagine life without blogging now and I could never have dreamed of the excitement and opportunities it has already brought me when I was just starting out 5 short months ago. Since then, I have met some amazing people, gained some lovely, loyal readers and have racked up just under 40,000 page views! My blog is definitely one of the best things to come out of 2015 and I'm so excited for what's to come this year.

In any year, it's unlikely that there's going to be only highs and no lows and 2015 was no exception. September was a really hard month for me but I feel like I've never grown up as much as I did throughout that time. I discovered that, sometimes, the aftermath of an incident and the feelings it evokes can be just as painful and hard to deal with as the event itself. Sometimes, there's nothing anyone can do to resolve a situation and make you feel better and you just need to take a long, hard, metaphorical look in the mirror and sort out what's going on inside your own head. I'm glad I can now say that I'm going in to 2016 a stronger person with a few different outlooks and priorities in life, good can always come from bad and I guess some things really are put in your life to help you grow as a person.

The end of the year was super exciting. In November, Blair and I celebrated 2 years of being together and it already seems like a lifetime ago. I'm such an exaggerator and I'm already starting to tell people we've been together for 2 and a half! In October/November I also had my first experiences of working with companies through my blog. It was such an exciting time and I learned so much about working in this industry and the direction I see my blog going in. In November I appeared in t! Magazine and was interviewed about my blog and life in general which was such a surreal but cool experience.

The start of December was really stressful with Uni work and exams as, in true University fashion, everything was due all at once. However, it did give me a chance to practice some stress-management techniques. Thankfully, I had a great Christmas to make up for it and have been having such a chilled holiday to recover. Spending New Year in London was the yummiest icing on the lovely cake that was 2015.

I'm feeling positive about the year ahead. It's the year I'll turn 20, start my year long placement in a Primary School, hopefully see some more of the world and definitely continue blogging. I've got some really exciting things coming up which I can't wait to share with you all! I guess it makes sense to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this year great. I'm so appreciative to be surrounded by such a supportive family, circle of friends and boyfriend. I don't want to get too emosh, but thank you also to everyone who has taken the time to read, comment and share my blog posts this year, I've been blown away by everyone's support and kindness. I feel so lucky to be able to put my love of writing in to practice and for people to actually read it! I wish you all the best for 2016. What have you got planned for the year ahead? Thanks for reading (not only today but throughout 2015)!
