7 Bits of Life Admin to Start off your Year

Life admin is pretty much one of the worst things about being semi-adult. It's basically all the boring stuff you have to do to keep your life ticking over, your room from becoming an infested rubbish dump and your Mum off your case. There is no better time to sort through a little bit of life admin than the New Year, to start how you mean to go on or at least do it once and not give it another thought until this time next year. So I thought I'd give you a little list of life admin you can do this month to give your life a little de-clutter or use as an excuse for procrastination when you're back to Uni/work/school.

1. Clear Out your Make Up Collection:

Do you really still need that Cherry Cola Lip Smacker you bought from Claire's in 2008 or that bright blue magic liquid eyeshadow thing you got free from No7 because you're such a Boots loyalist? Probably not. Also, that make up brush that literally scratches your face every time you use it because it's so old and you were really slacking on the cleaning department has to go. At least you're making way for new stuff. Throw out that SEVENTEEN mascara you bought when you were 14 that has literally gone solid and reward yourself with 5 new Mac liquid lipsticks. Sounds fair.

2. Clean Out Your Wardrobe:

I am a serial hoarder. Last week I threw out a dressing gown that was age 9-10. However, my problem is that every time I seem to throw clothes out, a few years later I find myself pining for that one stripy T-Shirt that I loved ever so much and would actually go with everything I own now. So basically, I just keep everything out of fear of missing it in the future. It's an unhealthy relationship with the contents of my wardrobe to say the least. However, to combat this: try on the things you feel a bit iffy about and if you get that feeling deep down in your tummy that you're just not really feeling it, throw it away and don't look back. Life is too short to have a wardrobe full of clothes you're lukewarm about.

3. Clear Out Your Underwear Drawer:

My underwear drawer is the most varied place known to man. I could close my eyes and pick out the cutest little pair of sassy pants like 999 get me on that Victoria Secret runway pronto and then pick out another pair that scream hi I'm 72 and recovering from a hernia. (However, I'm a firm believer in that there is absolutely nothing wrong with a pair of good ol'fashioned Granny pants.) But after a while granny pants and a pair of VS' alike can start to look a bit mehh, so throw out anything that's changed colour in the wash, is starting to fray or has bits of elastic hanging out all over the shop, because that is not cute. As for bras, I know how tempting it is to keep that 32B you wore a few years ago and squeeze your boobs in to it to make them look super voluptuous but that is not healthy for anyone. And no matter how much you love your fave bra, as soon as the wire pokes out there's nothing that can be done so take a moment to grieve then move on.

4. Use Up Half Empty Bottles:

I am so bad for using shower gel, shampoo or moisturiser for example then getting a new bottle, being too impatient to wait to finish the previous one, and then leaving it half empty and alone in the back of a cupboard somewhere. The start of the year is the time to finish all those abandoned bottles and make room in your cupboard for the all the Lush and Soap and Glory stuff you got for Christmas that you can't, as of yet, find a place for.

5. Clear Your Desktop:

If you know me well, you'll know that my Macbook's desktop is enough to make you do a mini sick in your mouth. I have never seen anything more traumatising but, in true life admin style, always put off dealing with it. Now is the time to arrange things in to folders, delete essays from 4th year at high school and learn to stop saving pictures of funny cats to your desktop. I truly believe that if I practice what I preach and clear my own, my overall stress levels will decrease by a good 20%.

6. Clear out your Camera Roll:

One of my first blog posts ever was one in which I gave 10 Tips for an Emptier Camera Roll (oh my goodness my posts were so short back then) because this is a problem I have struggled with for years. Take the time to delete all of 2015's bad memories, food pics which might cause you to slip up on your New Year diet and all the selfies you definitely want to leave in the past. This also applies to SD cards for bloggers, that 4GB will run out sooner than you think I swear.

7. Clean your Make Up Brushes:

It will probably be the worst 15 minutes of 2016 so far but it's just one of those things a gal's gotta do. I promise you'll feel better once all your brushes are looking spick and span and feeling super soft.

I hope this has given you an idea of some little ways you can get your life on track for 2016 and start the year feeling super organised. Also apologies if this post has brought all of this life admin you have to do, but probably still won't, to the forefront of your mind along with some intense feelings of guilt. What do you like to do to get ready for the year ahead? Or do you procrastinate with life admin as much as I do? Thanks for reading!
